swap don’t shop!

Flourish is our inter-generational ministry for women at Sutton Vineyard. On Saturday 25th March, we will be hosting a clothes swap event at The Dolphin 15:00-17:00. Come along to spend an afternoon browsing, chatting and swapping clothes with a glass of fizz and nibbles.

Our event is in aid of supporting Sutton Women's Centre (https://suttonwomenscentre.co.uk). There is a suggested donation of £5 to sign up, and the money raised from each ticket will be donated directly to them. If you are unable to donate at this time, there is a free ticket option available too. The event is open to all women at Sutton Vineyard and their friends.

The Dolphin has been open as a Warm Welcome Space on Mondays so far this year. We have decided to continue to open until 20th March between 11:00 and 13:00 at The Dolphin. Turkey and Syria

World Vision

A series of devastating earthquakes have hit southern Turkey (now known as Türkiye) and north-west Syria, killing thousands of people and injuring many more. Thousands of buildings, including hospitals and schools, have collapsed and infrastructure has been badly damaged.

People have been left without shelter in freezing winter conditions, with humanitarian needs expected to grow in the coming days. Access to clean water will likely be a challenge, bringing the risk of cholera and other diseases.

World Vision is a member of the DEC and, along with others, is taking emergency supplies to those most in need, including food, water, warm blankets, hygiene kits and shelters. There is much to be done in the days ahead, as well as to support the longer-term recovery.

Pray with us

For those who have lost loved ones

Heavenly Father, our hearts are moved by the effects of the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. The grief felt by families who have lost loved ones, or await news of loved ones, is unimaginable. We turn to you, God of all comfort, and ask that you be close to people in the days ahead and that they might know your peace that surpasses all understanding.

For those who have lost homes

Lord God, we pray for those who have lost their homes or have moved to safety away from tall buildings. Please keep them warm in the midst of this harsh winter and provide all they need. We pray especially for children who are confused and frightened by what is happening. May you be for them an oasis of peace in which to take shelter.

For those providing help

Lord God, we thank you for the swift action of those who are already responding. For the rescue teams searching for survivors, we ask for endurance and resilience. For those providing temporary shelter, we pray for the swift delivery of equipment. And for all those in communities offering comfort and help to their neighbours, we pray that you give them selfless compassion.

For the world’s response

Lord, we pray for world leaders as they decide how to respond. We pray that you stir each of our hearts in generosity towards the people of Turkey and Syria.

Amen.

Equip and Ignite

As followers of Jesus we find ourselves in extraordinary times. We need courage and God’s power to face the challenges and meet the needs around us. This weekend will help equip us in Kingdom ministry and the power of the Holy Spirit. We are delighted to be welcoming Steve Nicholson and Mark Iles to train us.

Steve and Cindy Nicholson, trailblazers from the early days of the Vineyard Movement in the USA, have over 40 years in church ministry. They have decades of wisdom, discernment and practical insight in recognising and stewarding the work of the Holy Spirit. They are passionate about passing this on to the next generation.

Mark Iles has been in prophetic ministry for nearly 30 years. He leads School for Prophecy, teaches at conferences and works with churches in the UK and overseas to provide strategic teaching, prophetic ministry and mentoring support. He and his wife Julie are part of the leadership team at Winchester Vineyard Church.

We hope you will join us for a journey of encounter, challenge and transformation!

On Friday 3rd February, we will be hosting our first event of the year as we gather to meet new friends, over a glass of wine and nibbles. We will then hear from some of the inspirational women in our church as they tell their stories of Hope.

Big Questions

This Spring we will be starting a series looking at Big Questions. We will address some of the 'Big Questions' that many people, Christian or not, have about the Bible and Christian faith. There are 7 Big Questions talks in total between January and March. These are a great chance to invite friends to church, or open up conversations about Christianity!

What's on in December

We’re buzzing because it’s almost time for Christmas! Here’s a summary of our upcoming events in December. Find links below to sign up, or head to the app!

Christmas events

Beer and Carols - Thursday 15th December - Pop to the pub, buy a drink and join us for a sing-a-long to some favourite carols at Shinner and Sudtone on Sutton High Street! A fun night out for anyone 18 plus.

Carols Service - Sunday 18th December - Celebrate Christmas with a traditional yet contemporary service including familiar carols. Join us from 10.00am at Overton Grange School, 36 Stanley Road, SM2 6TQ for free Christmas refreshments. Our Kids Christmas parties will also take place during this service.

Nativity Extravaganza - Friday 23rd December - A wonderful way to start the Christmas weekend! Our children (and grown ups!) have been working hard in rehearsals. Expect cute, silly, multimedia fun, with plenty of carols to join in with! Arrive any time from 3.30pm for free Christmas refreshments, the service will start at 4.00pm.

After our Christmas services, we will be taking a short break on the 25th December and 1st January. We will begin re-meeting on 8th January 2023! Find out more about our Christmas events here.

YOUTH CHRISTMAS PARTY

Youth from year 6 - year 13 are invited to join us for a Christmas Party at Stayton House, 93 Stayton Road, SM1 2PS from 7pm. There will be lots of games, snacks and Christmas fun! Make sure to sign your young person up in advance by clicking here.

Kids social - christmas bake-off

Join us for our Big Kids Bake Off social on Saturday 3rd December 10.00am-11.30am! We will be having lots of fun baking delicious Christmas goodies with some fun challenges thrown in!

25 YEARS OF SUTTON VINEYARD AND FAREWELL TO JASON AND BEV

This Sunday, 6th November, marks a very special day in the life of Sutton Vineyard. We will be celebrating 25 years of the church, and saying farewell to Senior Pastors Jason and Bev as they move on to new opportunities.

Join us for a special farewell service, followed by a celebration with Hog Roast, speeches and bouncy castles (for all ages)!

YOUTH FRIDAY NIGHT SOCIAL - PIZZA MAKING

Our Friday night Social in November is all about being creative! Youth will be having a Pizza Making Night where you can choose your favourite toppings to cover your pizza! There will be also a time to chill and hang out together and play games!

25 Years of Sutton Vineyard and Farewell to Jason and Bev

Join us as we celebrate 25 years of Sutton Vineyard and say farewell to our founding Senior Pastors Jason and Bev.

We will be watching a special video which shows the growth and story of the church over the last 25 years. We will then be hearing from Jason and Bev and praying for them as they continue in God's calling in their new roles.

After the service we will continue to celebrate with a Hog Roast, Prosecco and Bouncy Castle fun for all the family.

The Service and celebrations will be held at Overton Grange School - 36 Stanley Road, Sutton, SM2 6TQ

We open the doors from 10am and serve tea/coffee and biscuits in the main atrium. We are expecting lots of visitors so please arrive early and take a seat in the hall early.

If you are unable to join us we will be live-streaming the service on our YouTube channel and go live from 10.15am.

SPARKS: AN EVENING OF PRAYER AND PROPHECY

Sparks is an informal, unstructured evening of worship, prayer and prophesy! We will welcome Holy Spirit and let the sparks fly as we respond to the Spirit's leading, in the Father's presence, and in the name of Jesus!

YOUTH WEEKEND

The Youth Weekend is back! This is a FREE residential event at Stayton House packed with silliness, good food, teaching, ministry and worship time, time to socialise and of course LOADS of FUN!

LIGHT PARTY

On Sunday 30th October we will be hosting our Light Party! Its a fun-filled alternative to Hallowe'en for children aged 3-11.

There will be snacks, craft, bouncy castle, games, an under 5s zone and more! Please come dressed in your most colourful clothes.

SUNDAY SERVICES

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER

Join us to pray together at Overton Grange before a Sunday Service. We meet in Room A1 on the corridor to the left of the main entrance from 9.45am. 

It's of key importance that we pray for our Leaders and for our Sunday meetings together. On Sundays we welcome new people and each one of us has a fresh opportunity to encounter the presence of God. No need to sign up, just come along!

THE PRAYER ROOM @ THE DOLPHIN

The Prayer Room is open for you to use by yourself or in small groups. It is a wonderful space to spend time dedicated to prayer. At the moment The Prayer Room is set up with stations to help you pray for the future of Sutton Vineyard. For more information on how to book a slot, click here.

YOUTH PRAYER MEETING

This prayer meeting is an opportunity to pray for Young People and in particular the Youth at Sutton Vineyard and in Sutton.

We meet every first Monday of the month. To join us on Monday 5th September 8.00pm email youth@suttonvineyard.org for details

PRAYER AND DISCERNMENT FORUM

This prayer and discernment forum is a place to listen to God in prayer and then pray according to what we hear. The group gets amazing words and pictures from God and we just pray without any agenda and see what the Holy Spirit lays on our hearts to pray about.

POWERFUL CONVERSATIONS

Powerful Conversations are back! A powerful conversation is an intentional conversation, with one of our trained coaches, to support you in dealing with the challenges and demands we all face during our everyday lives. These are over zoom and our next Powerful Conversation sessions are on Monday 17th October.

PROPHECY

Prophecy sessions are a twenty minute Zoom meeting with Prophecy team members, who will seek to hear from God on your behalf and share that with you. October’s Prophecy sessions are on Monday 24th.

SOZO is a powerful yet gentle prayer session that aims to deal with all the things that are stopping us from connecting deeply with God. Your session will last between one and two hours and will be with a Sozo team of two members.

Steve and Lyn Burnhope

Meet Steve and Lyn! This Sunday, we introduced Steve and Lyn Burnhope who will be our Interim Senior Pastors when Jason and Bev leave, and we are so excited to have them on board. Here they are answering a few important questions!

A message from the Trustees: Jason and Bev's departure

Dear Church Family,

Many of you will have been in Church this morning and heard from Jason and Bev that they will be leaving their roles as Senior Pastors in November this year and the background to God calling them to new roles in His Kingdom.

Jason is to become Principal of Waverley Abbey College, near Farnham in Surrey, where Bev will also become Head of People.

Naturally, this will be a bittersweet moment for us as Trustees. We have journeyed with Jason and Bev as they have sought God’s wisdom in this, both for their own future calling and the next stage in Sutton Vineyard’s journey. We are all at peace that God is with us and directing our paths in what is happening. We’re excited both for their future and for ours!

Saying goodbye to Jason and Bev will obviously be with huge sadness. But it also gives us the opportunity to celebrate all the wonderful things God has done through them and the Church that they planted here 25 years ago. We were already planning a big party to mark our 25th anniversary and that will now be reshaped as a celebration and farewell for Jason and Bev.

As well as celebrating all that has come before, our job as Trustees is also to steer the next steps for Sutton Vineyard — for which, as you would expect, Jason and Bev have been equally focussed on during their own discernment process. Together, we have put plans in place for the next few months, for the smooth transition to new Senior Pastors.

As you would expect, our main role as Trustees will be overseeing that appointment and supporting our amazing staff team as they continue to oversee the day-to-day running of the Church.

The appointment process will run from now until December. In the in-between period from now through to early 2023 (called an ‘interregnum’), we’re delighted to share with you that Steve Burnhope, formerly Senior Pastor of Aylesbury Vineyard Church, with his wife Lyn, has agreed to become acting Senior Pastor to oversee the Church until the new Senior Pastors are in place. Steve and Lyn are long-time personal friends of Jason and Bev. They will be introducing Steve and Lyn to you in person at the first opportunity. For more about them, see below.

I am sure that you will feel the same mix of sadness and joy that we do, at this momentous time for Jason and Bev and the Church they so love. Please continue to pray for them and the Church and for God’s rich blessing on all of us as we look to the future with excitement and encouragement as to what God is going to do amongst us.

We have pulled together some FAQs here but if you have any immediate questions not answered there, do please speak to Jason and Bev or any of the Trustees. We will be in touch with further news from time-to-time, as the transition process continues.

About Steve and Lyn Burnhope

Steve and Lyn led Aylesbury Vineyard from 2013 before leading its transition to new Senior Pastors in 2020. During their tenure, the Church doubled in size to be one of the largest Vineyard churches in the UK & Ireland, with a significant compassion ministry in its Community.

Steve and Lyn both received Masters degrees in biblical interpretation from The London School of Theology. Steve also has a PhD in systematic theology from King’s College London. Lyn is a qualified teacher and is currently studying for her theology PhD. They have four children and three grandchildren.

Special service update

Dear Church Family,

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the 25th birthday celebration will not be happening on 18th September. Instead we have a special service on 11th September and we are re-arranging the party for later in the year.

YOUTH FRIDAY NIGHT SOCIALS

Our Youth are in for a treat this month as there are TWO Friday Night Socials!

On Friday 2nd September, they will be starting the new academic year with a BBQ. As we welcome our new Year 6's up into Youth, this event is a chance to get to know everyone. There will be food, silly games and a space to chat and hang out. Click here for more info and to sign up.

On Tuesday 27th September, we have our next Big Kids Social. They will be having lots of fun playing different board games. This event is open for children in Reception to Year 5.

Sutton Vineyard 25th Anniversary Celebrations

This year we celebrate 25 years of Sutton Vineyard!

Join us for our celebration service on Sunday 18th September 10.30am at Overton Grange. We will be watching a special video which shows the growth and story of the church over the last 25 years!

We'll be continuing the celebrations afterwards with a BBQ, ice cream and Inflatables (suitable for the whole family)!

Discovering Prophecy Course

Discovering Prophecy is the School for Prophecy's level one training course covering all aspects of the biblical gift of prophecy.

The course is run by Kevin McStay, who has helped lead our current prophecy team through their training. The course will help you better understand the biblical gift of prophecy, hear more clearly from Father for yourself and others and equip you to give and receive prophetic words using biblical principles.

Discovering Prophecy begins on Monday 26th September 2022 7.45-9.4pm, and runs one evening a month on Zoom for 9 sessions over 11 months (break for Christmas and Easter).

THE WENDY HOUSE

The Wendy House is a group for parents/carers and their babies/toddlers. It is run by volunteers from Sutton Vineyard Church. If you have children age 0-4, we would love to welcome you. Each week they make time and space to play, read stories, make crafts, sing songs and for grown-ups to chat and drink a cup of tea or coffee.
